Prepping for Props
Wednesday檚 classes came to a close after the students on the California High School Great Books Program discussed creation in Genesis. It was then time for another wonderful afternoon of recreation!
Students are starting to find a groove here at the program as they read, discuss, unwind, and get to know each other each day. Wednesday檚 recreation time included a few very intense games of volleyball, some lively rounds of Spikeball, and, of course, an escape from the hot sun at the swimming pool and arts table.
While some enjoyed outdoor activities, others hit up the rock wall, where they belayed one another and challenged themselves on the harder sections. Those with a flair for performance auditioned for Open Mic Night, which will take place Sunday evening, and members of the cast of The Importance of Being Ernest rehearsed for Friday night檚 performance.
Following recreation, students ran to the Commons to feast on chicken alfredo and cheesy bread. With dinner devoured, study hall commenced in the St. Bernardine of Siena Library, where students prepared for their first day of Euclid propositions. Today, they will be called to the chalkboard to demonstrate Propositions , , and of Book 1 of Euclid檚 Elements. The prefects led small study groups in different classrooms for students desiring extra help at the chalkboard.
At the close of study hall, prefects and students made their way to Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel to pray an evening Rosary. The Chapel was reverent and quiet as all paused their busy day to visit with the Lord and pray as a community.
Another happy night of Coffee Shop and Rec Room followed soon thereafter. Students gathered to enjoy brownies and ice cream. Some made their way outside to the athletic field, where they played ultimate frisbee and Spikeball. Back inside the coffee shop, two intense rounds of the game 淔amily unfolded, with shouts of triumph when Phoebe O. emerged victorious. Meanwhile, Henry S. and prefect Dominic Monnereau (28) accompanied a group of singers on guitar and banjo. The coffee shop resounded with the melodious sounds of 淭ake Me Home, Country Roads and 淛ersey Giant.
All too soon, it was time for curfew, and students called out goodnights to one another and raced back to their residence halls for the evening檚 late-night treat of chicken nuggets. Then it was off to bed Euclid Props await!
