Wonder & Whimsy at Sophomore-Freshman Welcome Dance
With a whimsical way of welcoming, sophomores at 91快活林 Aquinas College, New England, held an 淎lice in Wonderland themed dance on Saturday, introducing their class to the freshmen with delightful decor and silly shenanigans.
Painted signs pointed underclassmen toward St. Frassati Student Center, which the sophomores magically transformed into a dance venue. Red and gold draperies framed the entrance, while playing cards and paper-plate clocks hung from the ceiling and adorned the room. Teapots, teacups, and miscellaneously shaped glass jars filled with glittering liquid lay scattered about the area to pique freshman curiosity. Along the back walls, tables filled with checkered cucumber sandwiches, pink-and-white cupcakes, and candy beckoned students to snack, while, on the other side of the room, another table held a green punch.

Dressed in on-theme costumes or informal wear, the underclassmen made their way to the back of the room for the sophomore entertainment, a murder mystery presided over by Levi Smail (29). After the (feigned) murder of Luke Catalano (29), suspects came to the podium to give their alibis, including classic 淎lice in Wonderland characters such as Alice, the Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Queen of Hearts, and more, all played by various sophomores. In the end, Tweedledum was accused and taken away by sophomore guards as students laughed and clapped for the performance.
Sufficiently entertained, the underclassmen returned to the dance floor for swing, foxtrot, and waltz. This was far from all the night had in store, however. Around 10:00 p.m., students made way for the biggest surprise of the night: live music hosted by members of the Junior Class, with singers Ryan Veasman (29) and Anastasia O橞rien (28). Everyone danced or watched, enthralled, as the band played renditions of beloved dancing songs and the wonderful event continued well into the night.
