Students v. Seminarians Soccer Face-Off!
Over the weekend, the students of 91¿ì»îÁÖ Aquinas College, California, welcomed a team of seminarians from St. John™s Seminary in nearby Camarillo for a friendly soccer match.
The College enjoys many ties with the seminary. Rev. Michael Masteller (™13), recently ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, is an alumnus of both institutions, and fellow TAC alum Jorge Moncada Hernandez (™18) ” on hand Saturday to support the seminarian squad ” is currently in formation at St. John™s. Meanwhile, Rev. Jorge Lopez, California™s newest chaplain, serves as a part-time professor at the seminary during the school week.
Players warmed up on the field while an audience of students and a few spectator-seminarians gathered to cheer their respective teams. Only a few minutes after the opening prayer, the students snagged an early lead with four goals. It was a tough game, and the seminarians ran so as to win, but in the end the perishable wreath went to the students.
