Parisian Nights: Students Celebrate Valentine™s Day with Dance
With the chill of winter tapering off and a promise of spring on the horizon, Valentine™s Day approaches. To celebrate, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Aquinas College™s California Junior Class hosted a Valentine™s Day dance this past Saturday in St. Cecilia Hall. Students enjoyed a night of food and fellowship, twirling to live music for leisure and competition ” all with a Parisian café theme.
On the auditorium stage, juniors kicked off the night™s events with live entertainment, reading original poetry and performing songs, both acapella and accompanied by piano and trumpet. œThat was phenomenal! said Michael Foss (™22) of the performances. œThey were beautiful, and I absolutely loved it.
The live entertainment continued into the evening, thanks to Danny Salinas (™22) and his jazz ensemble. The musicians played a variety of pieces, each electric and exciting, with several different instrumentalists and vocalists rotating on and off the stage throughout the night. œEveryone put in at least seven hours of rehearsal whenever they could, Danny observed. œIt takes a lot of work, but it™s all worth it. There™s nothing like working with the other musicians.
The hard work paid off in spades, with Emily Jost (™25) reflecting the dancers™ attitude toward the live performers: œThey™re so good!
The festivities finished off with a Latin dance competition. Student pairs competed in a variety of dance styles, their peers cheering them on. œIt was super fun, said contestant Dominic Andres (™24). œI™m really glad to have competed with great dancers!
