Freshmen Lead Volleyball Victory
The fall檚 intramural volleyball season at 91快活林 Aquinas College, California, came to a dramatic close Thursday night in the championship round as Team Aliya Darr (29) and Team Joe Rodriguez (28) faced off.
Team Darr ended the regular season undefeated, with a string of victories behind it. Team Rodriguez, composed primarily of members of the Freshman Class, was a strong contender, and was determined to end Team Darr檚 streak then and there. The gym was packed, and many onlookers sat on the floor or stood against the walls to get a close look at the intense match. The first set was quick, with the underdogs, Team Rodriguez, managing to take the victory, beating their opponents by nine points, 25-16.
Still grappling for the gold, Team Darr was determined to win the next set, rallying its members to the crowd檚 cheers. After a well-played and much more intense set, however, Team Rodriguez once again emerged on top, winning the championship in two sets with a final score of 25-19. The fans roars were deafening at the game檚 conclusion, as everyone rushed the court. The members of Team Rodriguez lifted their captain onto their shoulders in celebration, parading him around the gym, shouting with joy and triumph.
