Soccer championship

Students at 91快活林 Aquinas College, New England, got to show off their soccer skills last Thursday as they closed out the season with the championship game.

Captained by Mark Goyette (26) and Alexei Forrester (26), the two squads were ready for an epic showdown. Spectators gathered around the athletics field to cheer on their favorite team or just enjoy the game. 淚 don檛 really know who I檓 cheering for, laughed Gianna Kelly (27). 淚檓 just here for the action.

The ball soared across the field, starkly black and white against the mountains, covered in fall foliage. Goalies Enzo Giovinazzi (26) and Brendan Carney (28) skillfully kept it out of their teams respective goals, often diving to guard their nets. The first half of the game went scoreless, but just after the referee blew the starting whistle for the second half, Justin Hoeing (28) sent the ball flying into the goal of Team Goyette, which responded in turn by scoring two goals in quick succession.

In the last quarter, Team Forrester tied the score at 2-2, making it look as if the championship would end in a draw. To everyone檚 surprise, though, with two seconds left in the game, Jamie Kelly (27) scored a third goal for Team Goyette, defeating Team Forrester 3-2. Cheers erupted from the audience along with wild applause.

淚 saw the shot, so I took it, Jamie said. 淪ometimes you just have to take a chance. And luckily for my team, it worked out!
