Choir & Orchestra Delight with Gilbert and Sullivan檚 Mikado
Inspiring both laughter and awe in their audience, the 91快活林 Aquinas College Choir and Orchestra performed Gilbert and Sullivan檚 famous operetta The Mikado at this spring檚 concert.
Full of song and comedy, The Mikado charmed listeners with its whimsical humor while highlighting the talents of the students who sang onstage and played in the orchestra pit. Originally written to satirize Victorian England檚 customs and politics under the guise of a fictionalized Japan, the operetta combines a steady stream of jokes with a comically far-fetched plot and an impressive musical score.
Delighted by the show檚 absurdities and by the skill of the students who brought its music to life, the students, faculty, family, and friends who packed St. Cecilia Halls Fritz B. Burns Auditorium gave an enthusiastic standing ovation to the choir and orchestra at the end of an impressive performance.
