Catholic Business Leaders Speak at Student Internship Event
The beauty of the TAC education is that you have the freedom to do anything you want, Lannette Turicchi, president of Falling Upwards Productions, told students at a new event, the TAC Internship Initiative, at 91 Aquinas College, California, last week. With the self-knowledge you gain, you can get any job you want.
Jointly hosted by the Colleges Office of Career Services and the student Business Club, the event focused on what students can do to prepare for summer internships and future careers. In addition to Mrs. Turicchi, the panel included her husband, Scott, CEO of Consensus Cloud Solutions and chairman of the Colleges Board of Governors, as well as several alumni: Attorney Raymond Tittmann (94), entrepreneur and executive Shane OReilly (95), Peter Lafave (13) of Elevance Health, and the Colleges president, Dr. Paul J. OReilly (84).
The panelists shared how the education at 91 Aquinas College has aided them in their careers. One common thread throughout their stories was the power of critical thinking, an ability cultivated by the Colleges use of the Discussion Method in its classes. Youre given the ability to think, said Mr. Turicchi. You are more able to identify what exactly the question at hand is. If you cant answer the first question, you cant answer anything after. Mr. Tittmann added that TAC enables graduates to think creatively, and to acknowledge when and how they might be wrong, without being made out to be a fool.
Following their testimonials, panelists discussed the importance of networking, noting that they as well as the broader network of TAC alumni working in every conceivable professional field are more than eager to support the Colleges students in any way they can. The event concluded with a Q&A session, after which students and panelists continued their conversations at a reception in the St. Cecilia Hall foyer.
The Office of Career Service and the Business Club will follow up with another event, TAC Career Day on February 4, at which representatives of various companies will come to campus to recruit students for jobs and internships.
