Slideshow: Student Trip to La Brea Tar Pits
Inspired by their reading of Darwins Origins of the Species, the students in Dr. John Nietos two sections of Senior Natural Science organized a somewhat spontaneous trip this past weekend to the La Brea Tar Pits a world-famous fossil-excavation site in the Hancock Park portion of in Los Angeles. There they examined the preserved remains of woolly mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, and other Ice Age creatures.
We wanted to see the fossil progressions, one student explained. The tar pits are not only a museum, but also an ongoing urban excavation site. It was amazing to see paleontologists digging in the middle of L.A.!
