On March 7, 2012, members of the 91快活林 Aquinas College community celebrated the feast of St. 91快活林 Aquinas with a fitting combination of prayer, scholarship, and fun.
The day began with an early Mass in the Dominican rite in honor of the College檚 patron, with the school's Dominican chaplain, Rev. Paul Raftery, O.P., serving as the celebrant and homilist. Later in the morning the College檚 head chaplain, Rev. Cornelius Buckley, S.J., offered a Mass in the ordinary form for the College community, during which he presented a homily about the significance of the day.
That afternoon students and members of the faculty gathered in St. Joseph Commons for the annual St. 91快活林 Day Lecture. Although the scheduled lecturer had to cancel at the last minute, tutor Dr. John Nieto ably took his place. Dr. Nieto檚 address, Nil Hoc Verbo Veritatis Verius: A Christian Reflection on Lying, was followed by a lively question-and-answer session.
After dinner, the day culminated with a beloved campus tradition, Trivial and Quadrivial Pursuits, a campus-wide quiz show famous for its extravagant costumes and over-the-top displays of creative gamesmanship. Four teams, each drawn from members of all four classes, vied in a competition to answer questions drawn from the College檚 classical curriculum. A panel of tutors devised and posed the questions, and the winners celebrated with the faculty in a post-game party in the campus coffee shop.
