College Hosts 2018 Seminar for Catholic Association of Latino Leaders
This past Saturday members of the Ventura Chapter of the (CALL) came to campus for the group™s seventh annual 91¿ì»îÁÖ Aquinas College seminar. A national organization dedicated to the growth and spiritual formation of the country™s Latino leaders, CALL has deep connections in Southern California and with the College. The Most Rev. José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, is the group™s episcopal moderator, and two members of the College™s L.A. Board of Regents, Justin Alvarez (™97) and Maria Peate, lead its Ventura Chapter.
Attendees at the CALL Saturday™s event began with Mass in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, offered by College Chaplain David Gonzalez, O.Praem. They then took a brief tour of the newly completed St. Cecilia Lecture and Concert Hall, after which they met for their 90-minute seminar in the boardroom of St. Bernardine of Siena Library.
A member of the faculty who is also a graduate of the College, Dr. Elizabeth Reyes (™03), led the discussion, which she began with the question, œWhy did the Israelites leave Egypt?" From there followed several more questions and a discussion that covered a wide range of themes from Exodus: the majestic character of a living and personal God Who saves, leads, and instructs through His mercy; justice, holiness, love, and glory; and God™s faithfulness to the individual and the community who are on a pilgrimage of faith both with Him and towards Him.
After the seminar, attendees continued the conversation over a buffet lunch in St. Joseph Commons followed by a discussion about the College and a tour of the campus.
